Using the water heater with poultry tonic

Recommended Posts

I know it's not that cold yet, but I was just thinking that if I put the poultry tonic in the water during the day, and it goes below freezing in that time, is it ok to keep that sort of water heated ?

I tend to make a litre bottle a day when I do do it, and don't always leave the water in there overnight, but I just wondered if heating the water makes any difference to it's content.

Also, what's the most amount of water I can make before it's not "fresh" or is it best to just make fresh every day ?

my chickens hate fresh water! they like it as yucky as possible :( I leave their water out overnight and only change it when it needs it, though as it gets colder I'll bring it in to stop it freezing. I think lots of people keep their water a bit heated in the colder months, and that generally coincides with a moult so I'm sure some have heated water with tonic in it too :)

We've got one of those plastic blue heater things that plugs in and you put the water container on top. It was a bit expensive and we had to buy a galvanised water holder but it was worth the money, knowing the water didn't freeze during the day - unlike my poor rabbits water...if only rabbits didn't chew ..
