jjmack
Before I go to the computor shop thought I should ask here first (to save me looking like a complete fool if its something really simple!) My wifi on my laptop works fine in my house through my sky wifi. Back in May I was able to log in at my sisters through her BT hub, but since then I have had a nightmare. I can't log into any free wifi networks e.g at a hotel or pub, nor at my mum and dads or aunts even when I have their log in details. Its a bit of a pain as it limits where I can use my laptop. Any ideas? Maybe I have done something to the settings but not sure what to check or where. All help / ideas gratefully received. If no joy will swallow my pride and go to the computor shop. Thnak you J
Ain't Nobody Here
I don't know an awful lot about it but it's a bit hard to check the settings unless you can test whether changing anything makes a difference . Have you tried the 'repair' function when you're away from home? (Right click the wireless icon at the bottom right of your tray)
Geoid
You might have a static ip address, what version of windows are you running (XP, Vista, 7?)
jjmack
Windows 7. What on earth is a static IP address?!!
Geoid
An ip address is what your computer uses to connect to the internet, normally they are dynamic (they can change) but a static one stays the same. Go to the start menu. In the search box type cmd and then press enter. A black box should appear. In the black box type ipconfig /all. A list of results should appear. Look at the result which says DHCP enabled . It should say yes next to it.
