Our Lovely Simba is at the vets :( Updates!

Recommended Posts

This is not the first time he has been really ill. He had pancreatitis several years ago and we thought that was the end. He recovered. Then he went suddenly blind, but amazingly recovered his sight when thery got his blood pressure down, but they dont know whats wrong with him- could be kidneys or a tumour. They havent been able to come up with a definite answer since his eyesight failed 2 years ago. Blood tests have always been inconclusive. But he has lost weight again over the last month so they are giving him fluids and more tests and the medical specialist vet (rather than the eye specialist vet ) is going to have a look at him tomorrow, and he may need a scan. He amazed them last time, as he had two detached retinas and bleeding, but they both reattached two weeks later :shock: . Lets hope they can finally get to the bottom of this.......

He's having thyroid tests today. A scan showed a cyst o his kidneys but nothing major so it doesnt seem to be kidneys yet again  The nurse did say that they love having him in as he is such a sweet cat... and he is eating again which is a good sign.... mind you they are probably feeding him chicken and fish so no wonder he doesnt want to eat at home :D

Simba is in trouble with the vet. His results are all over the place and neither one thing or another. Probably kidney failure but some of his hormones are really weird. End shot is they are having to source human medicine for him from America as long as they can get an import licence!!!!!

Fortunately he is insured. If he were a horse or a dog, we could source the medicine over here no problem, there are tablets and drops available, but they are too strong a strength for a 4kg cat. Seems you can get it in areas where children dont see a lot of sunshine and thats what we are after, but it may be south america or canada it has to come from. I think the problem is he is not absorbing enough vitamin D due to some sort of hormone imbalance. But the vet is very bemused by the whole thing and she is a specialist
