Clairey
Hi I was wondering how wise it is to introduce a 3rd younger guinea pig to my 2 girls? They are pretty bonded as they have lived together for over a year now, since they were 8 weeks old. Thanks Claire
kazmac
It's sometimes a hit or a miss, to be honest. There's no way of knowing for sure how they'd get on unless you try. Generally females are easier to introduce than boys, though.
Clairey
Thanks ChickenEggspert I just saw some piggies the other day and am so tempted to get a 3rd girl!... will have to think about it, whether it's worth taking the chance. What's the recommended living area per piggy?
kazmac
The British Cavy Council recommends a minimum space of 24 x 18 inches (60 x 40cm) with a minimum height of 15 inches (40cm) for a single guinea pig. But you should allow as much space in a cage / hutch as is practically and financially possible.
Beaky
Hi Clairey, My sister recently introduced a third cavy to two that were well settled together and they got on fine. She is fortunate enough to have a pretty large indoor area for them (she's pretty much converted her garage into a bedsit for guinea pigs!). There's some pretty useful information on sites such as animalloversweb about keeping cavies and how much room you should give them. It's definitely worth having a little browse through google for some advice. Also I'd recommend asking your vet/the person selling the Guinea to see what they think vis-a-vis room per piggy. A lot of the stuff you probably already know but it might help good luck with the 3rd guinea!
