ali-s
Living rurally we don't or didn't have any recycling collected. Our wheelie bin is collected every week and we could put everything in it. We have always recycled what we could ourselves and took it to the recycling tip. Today we took delivery of new recycling bins A wheelie bin for garden and food waste, a wheelie bin for paper, cardboard and tetra packs, a wheelie bin for plastic and cans, a lidded box for glass and a food waste caddy for the kitchen. The garden waste bin probably won't be used for grass cuttings as we fill between 10 and 15 black bags every time, so we will probably still use the trailer and take it to the recycling tip ourselves. The silly Council people left the bins not at our property but at the top of the lane, a 5 minute walk away. I had to do three trips to get the bins to the Cottage. The lane is very narrow and traffic using the road next to it go very fast, I am surprised that the bins hadn't been flattened by passing traffic. It is a good job I got home from work while it was still light or I wouldn't have known they were there. I had to phone the Council to see if the bins were actually mine. I can't wait to start using the bins. It will save us time and petrol money we used to go to the recycling tip which is about 8 miles away and not on our normal travelling route. Ain't Nobody Here
Bit slow on the recycling front, your council . Great to have so many recycling options now, though . We've just been given a food recycling bin . Not that we have much but every little helps!
ali-s
The towns and villages have had kerbside recycling for years, it was just rural properties that did not have these collections and were allowed to put everything in the household wheelie bin. We now have four wheelie bins and the plastic box. We are lucky enough to have the space here to put them all but not all rural properties have big gardens. They take up a lot of space. I wish the food waste wheelie bin had been here at the beginning of the week, I could have put all the defrosted food from the freezer in it. Would have saved me a trip to the recycling centre.
