I am in a quandry... Sample ready for posting today, however wont get results till Tuesday ish.

Chicken laying meat lumps and having to have them removed.

However on Monday there was none of significance to be found.

She had short course of very strong antibiotics last started last Thursday .

However through out this she has had a mucky bum every morning (does not roost) needing washing....

Her bot then stays fluffy rest of the day.... BUT her poo is mostly yellow or clear liquid..

I have had a brachyaspira result early October..(i know this is hugely hard to clear and as she is "not right" may have picked it up again, in which case the antibiotic she has had wont treat this...??

On top of that he started drinking loads (Wednesday) and 2 days ow her crop is not empty in the morning...(nor squish either though is full of liquid at night)

She is very up and down and is really only eating Apple a very few maggots and some grated cheese...

NOT the best diet but at least it is something...

 

She has oregostim in the water and alternative bowls with citricidal in... but makes for the pond as soon as she has access to it, (have to pass it at east twice a day!

Any thoughts would be good.

Hi - I have had similar ongoing problems with brachyspira (you helped me with this last year).

I have used nystatin with/directly following antibiotics. My understanding is that it is pretty inert and just passes through the chicken, clearing the fungal crop infection on the way. It is good stuff and I usually see an improvement in three days. It won't cure a systemic fungal infection as it needs to physically come in to contact with the fungus. I would get your hen started on it asap, personally.

My vet said pretty much same, thanks.

The only thing not covered is the brachy and her crop is still not emptying...

I wish she had not perked right right up yesterday as I cancelled my appoitment.

I rather think that there is a lump to get out.

If not then I think I will say goodbye tomorrow as there has to be some reason for the crop not moving...

Sadly a bacterial result will not be ready till Tuesday...

She is still eating and drinking loads...

I would welcome any thoughts,

should i wait or is it just keeping her till she gets real ill....

her eyes are bright when she has them open and she was scratching about in the flower beds for about an hour this morning.

A sunny day might have he;ped. She sat on a vet bed in the kitchen all afternoon, pecking at her corn on the cob and eating ready brek laced with dried mealworms.

And sleeping...

It could also be just her time?

sadly I lost her... Pm showed a decomposing rotting lash stuck in her oviduct, just out of the vets reach... at this point only a salpingectomy might have saved her but they are prohibitively expensive in Surrey. £700!!!
