Integration advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We've recently added 2 newbies to our other 2 girls and they are now living together in their run.

However, we have a cube (which is the original home) and an Eglu (which we got for integration), all 4 are laying in the cube, but the new 2 go back to sleep in the Eglu.

We wish to get a few more and will need to Eglu to start integration again. Is there an easy way to convince them the Cube is a much better place to sleep?

Thank You :D

I've had lots of toing and froing between Cube and Eglu. The Eglu was originally for bantams, and the Cube for large hens. At one stage, three bantams and at least one large hen were all crammed into the Eglu, with the Cube almost empty. They also queue up with their legs crossed to lay in the Eglu when there is a perfectly good Cube empty nearby. It gets particularly bad when a bantam is broody and is trying to sit on the eggs as they are being laid. Much squawking and complaining!

More recently all the bantams have moved into the Cube except Gwladys, so I have now got another two silkies to keep her company so she's not alone. Goodness knows what I shall do if they desert her and move into the Cube, because I can't have any more chickens!

As you don't have that many hens (unlike me, a sad case of Morehens disease if ever I saw one), you could just shut the Eglu door, and be prepared to post any misplaced chooks into the Cube at night - they will soon get the hang of it.
