Bloodspot within an egg

Recommended Posts

If its a "blood spot" it is caused by a small rupture when the egg is being formed which results in a small bleed within the egg.

If its a "meat spot" it is a small fragement of the lining of the oviduct which has been shed as the egg was being formed

Either way it is normally from a hen which is genetically disposed to do this, and will generally re-occur with further eggs she lays.

If they are white or pale eggs you can normally see the defect within the egg by shining a bright torch or candler through the egg to see the inside, but that is impossible with the dark shelled eggs.

Hope thats some help.
