Cranberry
My favorite hen is not well. She is all hunched and depressed. She is eating drinking and deficating but not happy. One of her hatching mates (full sister) was egg bound a few months ago so very worried. She was hand raised by my daughter, did time in the pram and is so tame. She is in a crate in the play room at the moment. Any sugestions for a tonic? One of my rescued hybrids had a sore eye all week but today it opened again. I had my first egg of the year yesterday from a new turkey. There were bits of shell bobbled on it. She is very pleased with herself. I had to kill one of my turkey girls today. She has been floping around on splayed legs for some time . She was very happy and greedy and its very sad but she would never have coped with the stag and she would have got hurt. She had eggs forming inside her. It was fasinating she had a clump of row (like fish row) then she had 3 yolks covered in bloodvessels. She did not have any shelled ones. She is in the freezer now. Its a real reminder of the cycle of life, first egg and death almost on the same day. I put the chicks in the barn 5 days ago in a two layer hutch. They love the extra space but are being very stupid about the ladder. They all jump on my shoulder when I feed them and come for a little ride. I guess they are missing the pram! They went to school last week and met 20 7-8 yos they had a great time and I got a few new egg orders out of it. Its so cold tonight I have rigged up a heat lamp for them. i hope it doesn't catch fire or something. The unhappy quail has recovered and they are all laying well. We can't keep up with orders so are keen to get more. They really smell inspite of regular cleaning so they are also about to be evicted to the barn. Next warm up and they are out! So thats what Ive been up to with the hens Im due to start lambing any day now and kidding at the end of the month. My billy is very busy with late breedings and Im being payed in hay which is great as Im nearly out. Best of all i did my tax return on time for the first time in 5 years and I got a massive £6.43 tax rebate!!!!!!!
