Tankengine
One of our 4 chickens, Atilla, is gradually losing feathers on her lower back/ base of tail, and they are not growing back. Initially she was being bullied, but anti-pecking spray seems to have stopped this. We have tried Stockholm tar, and cannot see any mites. This has been going on for a few months, and she now has a large mainly white bald patch. Our concern is that new feathers are not growing, and the baldness is gradually spreading. Any ideas? Patricia W
Are you sure she is still not being pecked? I find the "plucking" happens at night in the nest box. When I had this with one of mine, the only way I knew it was feather pecking was when I moved the victim into another eglu with a friend for a couple of weeks and the feathers began to grow back. Otherwise I'm baffled.
not enough chickens
i have the same problem, poor hetty has been oven ready for a while now, the feathers on her head and lower bum have grown back fine but her back is still bare with no signs of any feathers trying to grow, she no longer is being picked on , and has chossen to sleep in the smaller of my two houses , inwhich she is top chicken , so no night time bulling , all i can think of , is that back feathers must take longer to regrow ??
