Another poorly chicken

Recommended Posts

We lost our first chicken in December, and now her 'sister' is poorly and looking likely to go the same way, are we doing somhething wrong?

Poor Toast (now deceased) went through her first big moult, had just regained her feathers and begun to lay again. She then stopped laying and became lethargic with terrible diahhrea. We took her to the vet who could not really tell us anything other that that she was very poorly, and give us anti biotics, they had no effect so sadly we took her to be PTS.

Now two months on her friend Marmite is going the same way (shes 2 years old) does any one have any ideas what could be causing it? We are so worried about poor Marmite, and also that our two new girls, who we bought to keep he company, may suffer the same fate.

I had a problem with one of my ex batts a while ago,she had the runs and was very lethargic,my vet prescribed antibiotics but she didnt improve. I posted on here and another forum member suggested that I send a poo sample off to Retford Poultry for analysis. I took this advice and they pinpointed that she had Brachyspira, prescribed deneguard and a probiotic and she has made a full recovery. I am not saying that this is what your girlie has but it may be worthwhile sending a sample off and seeing what shows up. I hope your girl improves soon, good luck :)
