Old Speckled Hen
Check out this site http://www.pictorialmeadows.co.uk If you've got a little rough land somewhere in the garden plant some. They're not the cheapest seeds but they are pre mixed and the result looks good enough to eat and the bees love them.
Daphne
Gosh OSH Did you plant those? Beautiful Have you been watching Sarah Raven? I think she is doing a fantastic job, particularly last week when we heard all about municipal planting schemes and trying to persuade Britain in Bloom to judge for the impact on nature as well as everything else. I'd like to encourage everybody to plant for insects not just bees. I think a natural balance and wide eco/biodiversity is what we should be striving for (like those grasses in the wild flower mix) and that is the line I stick to firmly in my own garden when I see visitors expressions at my rather laidback approach to it all
Old Speckled Hen
no they are from the website. I'd love to do some guerilla planting but you have to start with bare soil and I think somebody might notice if I started denuding the verges. I think Sarah Raven has done a brilliant job shaking up the fuddy duddies at both Harrogate and the RHS
