Gertie
Hello everyone I've been thinking about sharing my new garden with another person, to make the most of the space and perhaps help someone out who wants to grow but does not have space. Has anyone ever done this before? What kind of arrangement do you make and where do you find folk who want to grow in Somerset? Many thanks
Egluntyne
I think Hugh Fearnley Wothisface's land share might be what you are looking for. Click
Gertie
Thanks Egluntyne, I did have a look at that! Hopefully there will be someone on there. Just wondering of anyone has any experience of doing this. Keen to share but keen to find out if there are any pitfalls!
chickenanne2
I was lucky enough to be able to use someone elses' land to grow stuff in this way. It was ace, but sadly they sold the house so it ended then. However.... It really helped that there was separate access to the site, so no need for them to feel like we were invading their space. They were v good about setting out what they did and didn't want at the start - which meant no problems later. (nic, or chemicals, permanent plants or not, shed space, water buts, etc etc etc). There were 4 of us using the space, and 2 of the 4 didn't really visit often or do much - I don't think they realised how much work was involved. This didn't worry the people who owned the house, but if I were them it would've annoyed me! Lack of water was always a problem. Also, fairest to be clear that you're committing for a decent time (unless something untoward happens), OR clear the area with them - it's harsh to allow someone to spend a lot of time and hard work to clear an area, dig it, then add compost etc only have a few months to use it. (obv depends on how overgrown it is to start with!).
Gertie
Thanks! That's exactly the sort of thing I need to know & didn't think at all about! I havnt had any replies anyway to my land share post yet! I was thinking of as long as they wanted, providing they get on with us. I guess that's important. Right, better get thinking.
