bantam wyandotte, orp and light sussex in Cheshire area?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

i have had a good trawl through the breeders and suppliers pages and links on here, but I havent managed to find anyone who has the above mentioned types of bantam and I was hoping to get a mixture of these when I get my first chickens when I have moved house. I ideally wanted to be able to get them all from the same place to avoid having to do intros so soon, but have only found a cheshire breeder who has wyandottes and orps with no light sussex. Can anyone help? I will be in South Cheshire so in easy access of Shropshire, Lancs and Derbyshire.

thanks for any replies :)

Cheshire poultry is good but not sure if he'd have all three breeds

If you get them from a breeder then chances are they'll have been in different pens or bigger groups so will be strangers anyway so you could get them from different places on the same day or within the same week and still be fine. Being flexible in this way should give you more options and better chances of getting the right birds from the right people

The only complication with this is that if one becomes ill it would be hard to know where the illness came from but this is thankfully quite rare

thanks Redwing, i was thinking I may have to do it this way but was unsure as to whether I would get the intros problem if i hadnt got them all from the same place. It makes sense actually and you have put my mind at rest- i guess if all 6 are relative strangers then there shouldnt be any issues with established 'gangs' and they will all be sorting out a pecking order rather than a couple having to fit in with an existing one.

thanks again! i will check out Cheshire Poultry as I think from a quick look at his website he has Orps and Dottes, i'd just need to get the Sussex's from elsewhere...

I got bantam Orps from Acre House Hens in Wrexham (Lin also sells hybrids too but unsure about Wyandotte), not far from Shrops boarder, not sure how realistic it would be for you to get to Wrexham though. Wrexham again is Halghton Holdings, nice chap there and you can reserve the types of hens you want, I know he breeds Wyandottes and he did have some Sussexes in when I went for a mooch before Christmas.

Cheshire Poultry is supposed to be very good and someone told me of a site called Victoria's poultry which pecialises in Orps, apparently based at the end of the M56 by Chester, I've not been on their site myself nor bought chooks from there so I can't vouch for them personally.

hey thanks everyone very much for the replies (only just logged on and seen them!!). memphisto; Wrexham wouldnt be too far for me at present but i think once i move further south it may be a bit far, but i will definitely bear it in mind!i have had a look at victorias poultry website and that looks promising too.
