Red bum

Recommended Posts

One of my chickens has a very red blad bum. I have treated them with lice and mite powder but it does not seam to be helping. Also don't think it is mites etc as it is only one hen. I am one egg a day down as well so I think she is not laying. Any ideas as to what it can be also what I can do. I did think maybe sudocrem as it looks red and angrey but don't know if this is a good idea or not. Any ideas would be wonderful.

Search on this forum for "depluming mite". It can affect only one hen - my Light Sussex is the only one who suffers from depluming mite - and I now paste her backside with Nivea cream into which I have mixed flowers of sulphur. Other people use a different carrier cream or lotion. It does work, although you may need to do it two or three times (depending on how bad it is). The initial effect is to make her backside look even redder, by the way, but that fades. I tried bathing her backside in water mixed with flowers of sulphur but the flowers of sulphur didn't stick to her.

Hello

Only just spotted your post

I had the same problems with 2 of my girls. The only remedy that worked was vasoline mixed with flowers of sulphar.....the redness calmed down within a week and then the new feathers slowly grew back.

hope this helps :)
