santy88
hi i am hatching eggs for the first time and using my broody hen. i have tried to candle the eggs that she is sat on but can't see anything in the egg, it is to dark apart from round the edge of the egg. they have been under her roughly 2 and a bit weeks. the other fertile eggs i have i can see clearly that there fertile. does this mean there are chicks in them? as i cant see anything moving. sjp
I assume they are good uns if I can't 'see' through them when I candle
santy88
so the best thing to do is just wait and see what happens?
craftyhunnypie
If they have been under her 2 and a half weeks, they won't be far off hatching. 21 days = 3 weeks! At this stage of development, so late on - the chick will fill most of the egg. So you wouldn't be able to see much apart from a large dark mass. I would say you'll have chicks very soon. Put them back under your broody quick & leave well alone. She will do the rest! Your broody will get fidgety on the nest when something is happening! Good luck!
