Paola
My girls have just been bought a new Singer sewing machine. I have taken it for a spin and I am pleased with my results considering its been about 17 years since I have used one!! Can any of you guys point me in the right direction for places to buy reasonably priced patterns and materials etc? Thanks
craftyhunnypie
There are some good sewing ideas etc on Coats crafts.co.uk. I don't know of their age, but a good book of ideas is one called stitch by stitch by Jane Bull. Or Cico Kids.. my First Sewing Book. Fabric - ebay or even charity shops. Decent pillowcases, bedding & table cloths / curtains in a nice cotton can all be recycled into lovely things by use of a sewing machine. Clothkits.co.uk are very nice & easy kits to make. They also sell fabric. Ikea sell fabric. I personally like Abakhan - an online website that sells all sorts. Emma.x
Olly
This book Me and My Sewing Machine is really good - I am not a total beginner but have recently returned to sewing after some years, and I found it really helpful. I buy most of my fabric on eBay, some is recycled - as Emma says, bedding is cheap and good for lining etc - and whenever I go into John Lewis or anywhere else that sells fabric, I look for the remnants box!
