We have moved - to Wales!

Thanks Chubby Chook, I've already washed the curtains, they shrunk a bit but they'll do until I can replace them  as far as the carpet goes, both our bedroom carpet and the lounge carpet will be doing just that - going, I can't wait to pull them up, bedroom carpet is very badly stained and the lounge carpet as well as being wee stained also has 24 large holes pecked in it by that flippin crow

I'm starting to wonder what we've taken on, we had the septic tank emptied on Friday after we had had a tree surgeon in to cut back the bushes sufficiently for access to be gained to it  Apparently the tank should be emptied just about annually but the previous people had not had it done the whole time they lived here - 11 years :vom::shock::vom:

I seem to be using the :vom: icon rather a lot at the moment  but more worrying is that even the septic tank man said "agh this house has got a history you know", something that was also rather tentatively mentioned by the couple of neighbours that OH has managed to meet - something about murder  but we don't know if it actually happened here, or to someone who lived here :anxious:

Up here the old folk used to put a dead sheep into the septic tank to make sure it worked properly. I suppose human remains might achieve the same purpose.

11 years eh? How long ago was that murder?

I feel sorry for you with the state of the house :vom:

I've had to do similar in past moves. THIS time we are lodging at mother in law's so we will be able to strip the new house, carpet and paint before the furniture gets delivered......BLISS.

LisaP I feel for you. Cling onto your dream as your long term goal, but also plan things in little steps and mark their achievement down in a diary or calendar so that you feel you are getting somewhere. It'll also make great fun reading once all is hunky dory . . . which it will be.

By the way we have a ghost in our Vicotrian house. I've put a separate post on this so as not to side track your thread

OSH bliss indeed to get the house done before you move in, unfortunately just wasn't an option for us.

The murders were either in the 60s or 70s, a previous owner killed his wife and child/ren and then killed himself at possibly Gatwick or Heathrow Airport, or here or both - you see the stories are not exactly clear

Chubby Chook you're right I should keep a record of what we do, I'm currently painting some very fiddly gold patterning back onto a fireplace. I didn't take a photo before I started but I will now as you will still be able to see how it looked before and after.
