No eggs since November

Recommended Posts

My three chickens stpped laying eggs in November and bar for the odd egg we are still waiting for them to start laying again. I did change the feed back in December and the birds look healthy and happy - but it is now mid April and I am beginning to thing something is not right. Has anyone got any suggestions?

If it's any consolation mine gave up last July (apart from one, who is laying like a trooper). Mine are wormed etc., and fed on exactly the same food, so goodness knows why one is laying and the others aren't. Hubby is making noises and complaining when/if I have to buy eggs elsewhere.

I have two hens, a Mrs Pepperpot who is nearly two years old and a heritage skyline who is nearly a year old. the heritage is laying well everyday but Mrs P has not laid since Boxing day last year. She is well, has a full red comb, and is full of beans but has some feathers missing underneath.

I have ordered some herbal pellets which supposedly kicks off laying again and also hardens the shells up of soft shelled eggs. You can get it in the omlet shop - it should arrive tomorrow so I'll see how it goes and post back here, success or otherwise.

Hi

Reading this with interest as my gang (1 @ 4 y/o & 4 @ 2.5 y/o) have all basically stopped popping them out since March. Through the winter they were giving us sporadic eggs which I put down to the cold / dank / dark & their ages - but it does seem odd that everyone has laying.

Nothing has changed in their day to day lives, and apart from one who is being a bit bullied they all seem in fine fettle (although there are a few tummy feather missing, so I'm wondering if there is an element of broodiness here. I haven't tried worming them so is this something i need to do to each one individually?

All thoughts & experiences gratefully received!

Thank you.

They need worming regularly, four monthly is good. I, and many others on here use Marriages layers pellets with Flubenvet (a worming preparation) incorporated in the pellets. They need to be fed for seven days with no other food or treats available. Alternatively you can buy Flubenvet powder to mix with your usual layers pellets (6 grams of wormer to 2kg of feed). There is no egg withdrawal period necessary. Do they free range all day? If so, it might be an idea to keep them confined to their run for the morning so they eat plenty of layers pellets but this would depend on your set up. Their age may be a factor also. x
