Eggasperated
Since Alice was treated for, and recovered from, sour crop a couple of weeks ago she seems odd. She gets up with the others, goes to bed with the others, eats a bit, drinks a bit, scratches about a bit, comes running for treats, pulls and eats a few feathers . But she seems to be spending quite a lot of her day moping about under the hedge looking puffy with her tail down. She's certainly well enough to avoid being caught so we have taken her out of the house at night and examined her but nothing seems to be wrong, although her comb is a funny darker red than the others but not purple. I was wondering whether to worm everyone as I would being doing it this month anyway but I'm worried that might cause Alice more stress. I'm also not happy about another trip to the vets as, apart from the problem catching her, I know that would cause more stress and she was given a clean bill of health at the end of the treatment. Any ideas? Would it be a good idea to worm her? Just don't know what to do for the best .
sarahelliott
i'd worm her, it certainly wont do her any harm and might just fix things. sometimes hens show all sorts of strange symptoms when they need worming
Egghead68
I'd worm her and give her some nutridrops and/or probiotics. Did you get to the root cause of the sour crop?
Eggasperated
I'd worm her and give her some nutridrops and/or probiotics. Did you get to the root cause of the sour crop? I've got Lifeguard in the water, I did try to continue with the probiotic yogurt but Alice won't touch it unless syringed in, which is an unpleasant experience for both of us . As to the sour crop, the vet didn't find the root cause so I'm beginning to think there may be a more serious underlying problem such as as a growth or tumour which isn't yet obvious enough to diagnose. Strange thing is she has really normal times and then really depressed looking times spread out over each day.
