Kirstie
Well a chick hatched yesterday and another through the night - the other chick has pipped but nothing more so I peeled the shell back and have popped it back under mum. Now I'm worrying I've done the wrong thing - the membranes were very dry but I'm not going to attempt to do the membranes as there was a slight bit of blood around the pip hole. I'm now panicking - as I don't know if I should have left it and say what will be, or whether ive just made it worse - I'm leaving it under mum now but am so worried - i hate this bit ! This is the bit that last time I said no more chicks and I completely forgot how horrible this bit is! Edited May 8, 2012 by Guest
Isabel
How are things now Kirstie? Did the little one make his way out?
Kirstie
Well since my post I went out and dampened chick no 3s membrane with warm water and shoved him back under mum. I popped out this evening and had a rummage feel and guess what ? I felt an empty shell so I removed it and lifted belle for a quick peep and there was a damp little chick! so hooray we have 3 chicks ! 3 out of 3 that were fertile! I'm a happy chicken How's your eggs after the mess Isabel? Not long now for you x sooooo stressful but now it's all ok soooooooo lovely xx they are gorgeous - if I knew how to put photos on here I would x
Isabel
Brilliant!!! Well done, sounds like you did just the right thing. Hope you can figure photos put! Will you keep them closed in for a day or two or do you open the door and let them into a run tomorrow? Haven't checked her since this morning but am waiting for it to be dark enough to candle. Really want to get any dud eggs out now so if I can see through them, they go! Hope that's right!
Kirstie
I think I'll open the door tomorrow - I think Belle will be thankful for some fresh air. And the chicks will all be fluffy by tomorrow and they are so cute ducking in and out from under Belle! I hope that's ok letting her out - I think it will be wet so she won't want to be out (her run is covered). Good luck with candling - if they are clear then you should remove them as by now you would def be able to see if nothing is growing in them (that is except your maran eggs ) let us know how it goes x
