Chicken deficient
Just wondering, whether by accident or intent, anyone has tried crossing a Pekin with other breeds of chicken? I have a Cuckoo Pekin cockerel and an assortment of hens, which gives me several possible mummies: Partridge Pekins -> Crele Pekins, so more lovely characters, tiny eggs and feathery feet to care for, but they would be beautiful Silver Laced Wyandotte -> ? Pretty, less fluffy footed and bigger eggs, or weird ugly mix? Bluebelle Hybrid -> ? Tall, beautiful, calm and friendly, large egg layer or scary Frankenchicken? What would you suggest? Redwing
I wouldnt cross it with the hybrid personally The Pekin colour cross would no doubt result in some colourful offspring The Pekin x Wyandotte (if its a bantam) should produce a nice little bird but prone to broodiness Most heavy breed or true bantams should make a reasonable cross with a Pekin, Silkies are good for example. light breed bantams or large fowl wouldnt be a great mix Bear in mind that when you cross colours and/or breeds the males are virtually worthless and very hard to rehome so it may be worth having a plan for these
newcountrygirl
I have a Pekin which is crossed with a Campine. She looks just like Gladys off Hi-de-hi - hence her name Gladys Pugh
