Thinking of getting two more ladies-which breeds?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

As some of you may know, my OEG bantam was PTS last month. I am now left with two. I was wondering if I should get 2 new girls to join them or should I just leave things as they are? I have an Australorp bantam and a partridge Wynadotte bantam. Which breeds would be suitable to get along with them. I have a classic with a 3 metre run but would definitely consider getting another extension (until I can afford a WIR!).

I would appreciate any thoughts or opinions. :D

I only have 2 girls left too.

I'm hoping to get 3 more soon but haven't decided what to get yet.

I do like my Wyandottes though and I really like those Millefleur pekins.

I'm sorry I haven't been much use but I didn't want to just read your post and go.

Hope you find out what you want soon.

Thanks Luvachicken! Its a tricky now because my girls are pretty quiet most of the time and I'm not sure whether I want to disrupt that but on the other hand it would probably best to have some more in case something happens to one of them. My 3 year old likes Polish ones but not sure about mixing them with my girls but their hairstyles are rather funky. My wyandotte is a big girl and pretty aloof. Neither of them are particularly friendly so don't know how they would react to newbies! I must admit I like the look of pekins but would worry about their feathered feet. I also like the look of silkies but broodiness is a factor! Decisions!

So, I have been researching this a great deal and I still can't decide! I seem to be having a problem in my run when it rains and it can get quite muddy as the rain drips off the clear cover and onto the sides so probably no feathery footed breeds. I need a pair of girls that can hold their own! Even though they are bantams my wyandotte seems pretty massive to me so would size be an issue? Any ideas welcome!
