Should I let her go now?

Recommended Posts

I posted just over a week ago about Josie and her mite problem and Eglutyne was really helpful. She is no better though. Not sure whether she still has mites, but she is just standing, head sunken, not eating, losing weight, her back end is filthy and washing it just stresses her out. She is passing horrible bright greeny/yellow gunk.

I can't let her out as the others just attack her mob handed and I actually think they will kill her.

She has had antbiotics and spot on from the vet. I have bought Net Tex poultry tonic with seaweed, anti peck spray and anti mite spray. I have given her meal worms, which she picks at.

It has been 10 days now and she is just suffering. My neighbour is good at doing the deed but I just want to know I have done all I can

Thank you for your thoughts

I'm sorry to hear about poor Josie, and it does sound as if there is perhaps more to it than mites. How old is she?

I think that you have done everything you can - she has seen the vet and had the prescribed medication, and is no better. In those circumstances, I know that my avian specialist vet would say that it may be kinder to let her go rather than prolong her suffering. :(

Millie Annie. I don't know whether her worming is up to date but if not it would be worth doing so just to rule out anything "simple" If she has a heavy worm burden this would certainly drag her down & give her a horrid bot. The vet could give you panacur (not licensed for use in poultry) . You just have to give it orally over the course of a few days & it certainly does the job. If she is sliding downhill and her worming is up to date I'm afraid I would have her humanely euthanised but by a vet. She would just sleep away. It is horrible but watching a pet suffer is even worse. . Hugs to you. Alli x
