Mr Rhode Island Red
A bit of a drama scene here this evening. Had a Barred Plymouth Rock hen that is recovering from chronic bumblefoot out in the sun around the garden. As I was going out to check on her, a dog came out of nowhere and darted up the back garden towards her. Dog got to the hen before I did and dragged her a few metres. I then managed to get to the dog and pull him away. The dog got away...And miraculously, so did the hen! She is understandably a bit sore and she is very featherless on her back. But she managed to come away with a few surface cuts, nothing serious. And she doesn't seem to be too traumatised either. She is drinking water. The attack didn't do any good for her but she has survived. I could, God forbid, go out in the morning to find her dead from shock etc. but that doesn't appear like it is going to happen. As for the dog, let us hope the ground swallows him up and that he burns violently in the embers of hell Anybody have any suggestions as to what I should do or what will happen? cheekymonkey68
I think i'd try and wash the cuts down with some warm salt water and keep her somewhere quiet for the night, perhaps in a dog/ cat crate possibly inside. Now that the dog knows where she is tho it may come back!! I'd try and find out who it belongs to and have a word!! Hope your girl is ok and lives to fight another day
