mollyripkim
Poor feisty Henrietta was fine yesterday, thought she was a but quiet this morning but by this evening she was hunched up looking very sorry for herself. I think she is waddling and rear end between vent and legs feels fuller than others but not swishy, and she wasnt interested in treats. Someone has laid a couple of softies recently so am hoping it's that and she will recover but will take her to vets in the morning. She just sat in the run hunched up when others went to bed so I put her in but now she is back in run. Do you think I should leave her (it's secure) or bring her indoors? sandyhas3chucks
personally I would pop her in a box or carry crate overnight somewhere safe not hot ,and quiet indoors x
mollyripkim
Just been out to check, it's 10.20, Henrietta had gone back into cube and there was a warm soft egg in the box so I really hope that is the problem. I have already mixed some cod liver oil in their food.
mollyripkim
Well Henrietta still poorly this morning so been to vets who doesn't think it is peritonitis, think that is a good thing. She did a green runny poo in the carrier on the way there which has been sent off for testing for coxidosis (spelling!), if its that they will all need treatment. She has given her Duphatrim to start with and I have to ring for rest results tomorrow afternoon. I have her separated now and she ate some mealworms so I am going to offer her treats through the day. I'm really glad she ate them as she wouldn't eat at all this morning. Has anyone heard of that medicine?
Miss Millies Chicken
Good news that she is feeling a little better and able to eat a few mealworms. Duphatrim is an antibiotic used for for general infections.
sandyhas3chucks
did your vet check in her oviduct for a stuck shell? Another possibility... my vet has removed so many.... not just from my ex batties either. antibiotic of choice(from Avian expert vets)e is amoxacillin/ "noroclav" she might pass it herself but sometimes they crush and stick sideways... makes em feel very rough
mollyripkim
Thanks for your replies, yes the vet did check and doesnt appear to be anything stuck. I will mention the amoxicillin as well when I get the sample results. Poor thing is looking very sorry for herself.
