craftyhunnypie
How big actually are Ancona bantams? We have a normal sized Ancona - but I've got some bantam Ancona eggs on their way. Just wondered how big a bantam one really is? Thanks.. Emma.x
The Dogmother
I have one; their body is smaller than that of a Wyandotte bantam, they are more upright in their stance and have longer legs. A nice, slim, compact bird with wonderful markings and a friendly nature. Perhaps not the best layer though.
craftyhunnypie
Thanks for that - I thought they would be a smaller version of say a leghorn. Our large one has lovely markings & is so friendly. She is also the ring leader for any naughty adventures! Emma.x
The Dogmother
They are not unlike a Leghorn in stature and shape although the tail is more triangular than rudder-shaped.
craftyhunnypie
That's tickled me, as next time Annie my normal Ancona shakes her tail - I'll say she's shaking her rudder! I've noticed with her, that as she's got older she has got more spotty dotty. Emma.x
The Dogmother
They do; the white triangles at the end of each feather get bigger as they age.
