Hi all... Just feeling a bit anxious... One of my ladies has suddenly become very quiet, sitting down alot (not in the nesting box) and appears much less active. Not particularly interested in food but went mad for some mealworms. No physical symptoms as far as we can see, and was fine this morning. Any ideas? Feel quite concerned.

How old is she? Has she started laying yet? Has she been wormed with Flubenvet within the last 3 or 4 months?

 

Sorry for all the questions, but it might help to narrow It down a bit.

Only had her since easter and she was laying straightaway when she came from Omlet. Not been wormed yet... Should we try this first? Sorry to be so vague- i'm no expert, but she's not right. X

Maybe got a soft egg coming? It can make them feel quite unwell. I would take her to the vet if she isn't better by Monday.

I reckon a soft egg ( but no expert) If they are starting to lay they can be a bit up and down .A soft egg..with out a shell.. can make them really poorly.Basicly an egg difficult to lay.One of my girls laid a couple and she would stand under a hedge most of the day and not eat or drink etc., neck down and feeling sorry for herself.

But once it is laid they are fine.They are still practising. I hope everything is ok

Thanks guys. Hope she's on the mend after a soft egg lay! Taken herself to bed like normal.. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Both the girls are laying very regularly - and eating at a rate of knots! We haven't had anything but delicious perfect eggs from them so far, so I don't know much about soft eggs... Will keep you posted xx

Think i've solved the mystery! My girl was much more perky this morning. Noticed she was on the nesting box for some time... Just checked on her and she was sitting on an egg quite contently- looks like she's a bit broody! I guess if she's laid, she isn't ill.
