Sorry - not sure what to call them! I looked in "eggs" but cant see my egg query. The egg is ok but every so often at the air hole end the shell goes in. Membrane intact - at first I thought it was pecked but its not as my lot will finish an egg off. It looks like its not been finished off properly in transit! These eggs are from a young hen.

I think it's exactly as you have said - not finished off in transit! I have one laying these sort of eggs at the moment, only she's an older hen and I don't think it will get any better. Sometimes the egg is finished but that end is a bit dimpled and slightly soft, other times it actually has a gap in the shell.

 

If yours is quite young, I would expect that they will sort themselves out in time but it may be worth ensuring they have enough calcium.

Thanks Olly - I use them quickly so bacteria can't get in and smell them first before using.

My youngest girl laid a few eggs with a little cord of membrane hanging out of one end. She's laying normal ones now.

i had one of those 2 - OH said it looked like an umbilical cord.
