Piece of softie stuck?

Recommended Posts

Dh woke me up this morning as delores had partially laid a soft shelled egg, some was hanging from her vent. We've had this before with another girl so we did the same and pulled it out, however she's still a bit quiet tonight. I've see on here before you can put your finger in the vent to check it is all out? I'm nervous about hurting her or introducing infection, but happy to have a go if it's straightforward. If not then will take her to the vets. I'm not planning to try until tomorrow in case she picks up.

She is an ex barn so might be prone to this, she laid a couple of softies when she first arrived, but not recently, but 2in the last 2 days. Will also give her some limestone flour and cod liver oil. I was also wondering if the amazing thunderstorm could have affected her. We've only had her and nancy since march, and she is such a cutie, I am hoping I am overreacting!

I'm not too happy about popping a finger in. I'd use disposable gloves and a spot of water based lubricant. I've found if a bit of soft shell is hanging out, then I blow on her vent, and GENTLY pull the shell at her own rate ---- DON'T TUG IT OUT, It must be eased out.. Found this works well for our ExBatts when they have them.
