Guest
Is a Brown Shaver similar to a Hyline? Which would make for better garden hens - a Brown Shaver or a Welsummers?
sjp
shavers are the same, they are another of the standard brown commercial hydrid RIR Light Sussex cross just from a differant company
The Dogmother
Yeah, just another 'Brown Girl', they are lovely and placid though. Welsummers are slightly smaller with lovely colouring, they also lay dark brown eggs. Bear in mind that as pure breeds they may not lay in the winter. Lovely birds though and pretty friendly. Guest
Ah ok - thanks both. I think we'll go for the Shavers - Ginger and Babs were fab little hens - so another 2 the same would be great.
