Please help me I don't know where to start!

Recommended Posts

I've had my chickens over a year now and the original WIR was made of recycled stuff, now I'm in a position to get a more pretty one!

Here is my old one;

see what I mean about not pretty! The problems I've encountered with this one are; there's no roof so it is now a horrible smelly bog, it is built round a fir tree that pigeons roost in and they can fit their heads through the fence which (I think) is contributing to one of the chickens losing feathers around her neck.

So... I have done a 'skills swap' with a friend and over the summer he is coming over to chop the tree down and concrete and lay slabs on the area, then erect an aviary style WIR for me. I have the slabs, but need to get the aviary panels. I contacted aviaries4U but I am too far away (Derby) and don't want to spend more than £400 - including the roofing and some guttering and water butt, so I guess around £350 for just the panels. So does anyone have any helpful comment for me?! :pray: I've looked on ebay, but I'm totally overwhelmed and need to make a decision soon.

Also I want to paint the panels before I put them up, my daughter's playhouse which is next to the run is cornflower blue, anyone any thoughts on a complimentary colour, also I heard ages ago that if you spray paint the mess black it makes it 'disappear' has anyone tried this?

Thanks for all your help...

West Hagley and Bay Animal Housing are good. There are some on ebay made by a company called Aviarie World that look good but I havent seen those up close

The mesh will seem to vanish if its black but to be honest it does almost as much as if its left alone so I wouldnt bother with the mess of painting it to be honest

A complimentary blue for the frame would be nice or just use a brown wood preserver as this can look quite classy and doesnt draw attention to the structure
