grier
Yesterday I had to have my very old Buff Orpington hen put to sleep because she had been getting increasingly worse with Mycoplasma symptoms, she was well over 8 years old. I have two other hens who are much younger and although they are displaying symptoms as well, they are very mild in comparison. I really need some help with deciding what to do next, because I wanted to add to the flock, but feel that I would be sentencing them to the same fate. Even if I were to start afresh with an unaffected flock, I gather that they could pick it up from wild birds anyway. Is it possible to get just a couple of new hens vaccinated? Or maybe to purchase birds that are already vaccinated? Somebody help!!!!!!
Redwing
Most hybrids are vaccinated most pure breeds arent Lots of birds are mistakenly disgnosed as having Myco, it seems to be the first diagnosis of some vets
Egluntyne
If you are wanting to purchase vaccinated birds, you will need to source them from one of the bigger breeders rather than a back yard hobby breeder. The vaccines are bought in industrial quantities, and administered in ways beyond the scope of those breeding a few chickens as a pastime.
