chickanne
As a chicken owner I got called in to consult on a duck which was scratching itself all day. Could not see eggs at the base of feathers or jumpy critters. Do they get "pets" or could the scratching and slightly bald patches be due to something else?? miller30
I have never known ducks to get any kind of cooties as they are in and out of water all the time so its hard to put any kind of mite treatment on them could it be moulting and the new feathers coming through are itchy leanne
Chortle Chook
Could it be that the duck is not scratching, but preening. They do this a lot to make sure that they are water proof. My boy duck sometimes follows up his preening routine by scratching with one foot on his face but I've never seen any jumpies or stickies on either of my ducks. I think his scratching is a sort of displacement activity as he tends to do it when he knows he is supposed to be getting out of his bath for bedtime or when his wife is calling him.
