advice please POL crop issues

Recommended Posts

I went to let my friends dog out yesterday at 10 and glanced in at girls. Betty a Blue bell hybrid was at the glug and wiggled neck and I just thought hmmm

2 hours later went to let hin out again, and she emerged from nest having laid but her crop was huge about a 44 E ad she was doing the neck flicks.

but she was stuffing the pellets down like they were ging to be rationed later.

On the advice of our vet I removed her from food, in fact brought her to my home and put her in a large crate. she had only grit, water yoghurt and what small bits of grass she could peck through.

then one normal poo followed by very uber wet, which was heaving with worms.

so wormed there and then..

she is now about a 36 DD and still intermittently necking I have emptied and get a little but a huge amount is there but not pouring out...

she is currently indoors as I think she would be at grass or food out.. She has maggots and yoghurt but still dribbling out when she is eating....

Should I keep draining little and often or just take her to the vet?

She has been laying now ok eggs about 2 weeks and laid a soft double a few nights ago followed by a good egg.????? Just my luck i was looking after them today and tomorrow any way...

well took her to the vet. he drained some more, more than I was able but by no means empty.

She has had a lot pf liquid parafin and Nystatin,

He seemed to think she had lost a lot of weight????(not seen before) and at approx 26 weeks weighs 2.21 KG

However thinks she may have a blocked gizzard...

any thoughts from anyone????

She has had only ready brek . yoghurt and maggots. (after approx 12 hours of almost nothing)is very perky still and some poo coming through????

WE thought getting youngsters might mean less problems :(:(

She is such a sweety :(

I don't have any advise as I am not that knowledgable with chickens yet, but I wanted to reply to give you and your girl my best wishes as it sounds such a difficult situation :(

Hope your chook feels better soon!

last Saturday friend took her girl back to vet who flushed and flushed till virtually empty.

1 hour later the residual fluid had gone leavind a solid gritty/or corn feeling large marble size lump. This had gone after 5 hours. copious amount of poo , unbelievable actually!!!!

(no food)

2 days on wet food only.

system clearing ok...

then day 3 on dry mash and a step backwards..

hoping we might be winning..

now looking like pendulous crop and a separate thread started....
