Ace the Skyline has been a noisy little beggar today. I let them out for a bit of freeranging this afternoon but she stayed in the nest box, duly laid an egg (nine times out of ten she lays late), came out and just squawked and squawked. I thought she was just missing her mates and lured her down the garden. But she just wouldn't let up, and went back to the box a bit later. So I turfed her out, avoiding a swift peck in the process. She was sitting on half a snail shell

 

A little while later I did the 'catch them all and spray' with the anti-peck. I did her relatively easily but when I turned to do Rose she gave me a swift peck on the ankle, drawing blood. I had shut the Cube door by then and she kept going up the ladder, muttering to herself.

 

When I did open the Cube she went in and sat in the box growling so I enticed her out again with some grapes. The door is now shut until a bit later. That caused another hissy fit but she seems to have quietened and seems back to normal. It does seem like a broody case but tomorrow will tell!

I've got 9 broodies out of 20 girls at the minute They're all pretty good natured whilst broody...apart from Dotty my White Frizzle who does a fantastic impression of a turkey, strutting around with wings out and puffed up to twice her size

It was as if nothing had ever happened today. Not a peep out of her, or even the others - quiet as church mouses! And when it came to anti peck spray time Ace just stood and let me do it, not even scarpering when I'd finished - Contrary Mary!
