Cube numbers and skirting ideas!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this post is really 2 questions, I'm relying on omlets fab forum to help!

1st in your opinion what is an acceptable number of hens to keep in a eglu cube 3m? If hens are not free ranging?

2ndly we are thinking on moving our cube to a better slabbed area, however it won't be trimmed with grass. So the skirting won't be held down by tent pegs!!! So what could I use instead? My hubby thinks bricks, which are functional but not very easy on the eye? What about 4 sturdy plant pots on each corner? Anybody got an ideas? I need some inspiration!!

Looking forward to replies

Thanks in advance

If it is on flat slabs which extend underneath the skirt of the run, then you won't need anything to hold it down - it's heavy enough to stay down on it's own. It is designed to be left uncovered so that if a predator does decide to dig under, it will try next to the wall of the run - on the skirt. If you put things on the skirt, the predator will start to dig further out where the skirt doesn't reach, increasing the chances of it digging under the side of the run. I know that won't be an issue as it is on slabs, but it shows that the run skirts aren't designed to need weighting down.
