Eglu roosting bars as external perching bars?

Recommended Posts

Dear Witchazel and Spinning Top

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I did mean just plonking the bars on the ground - but do realise they are not much more than a few inches above the ground. I don't have any bricks and would be afraid they might dislodge and fall on them. I think the shoe rack is a good idea, but am veering towards the perch in Flytes so Fancy brochure although it is only 4" above the ground. It is also pressure treated timber. Thanks again...Maxine

Hi Maxine,

A shoe rack might not have wide enough bars to perch on but you don't need to spend a lot of money on ready made perches. If it's any help, this is what we did:

- I saved the tyres when my husband got the ones on his motorbike changed and 'planted' them with about 1/3 buried, filling the rim with soil to anchor them in place. This leaves approx 2/3 making an arch about a foot above the ground. The bigger girls choose these. If you're not due to change your tyres I'm sure you could get some old ones from a garage / Quickfit.

- We took the poles out of an old windbreak, hammered 2 into the ground and secured another one between them, about 3 feet up. That takes about 4 girls at a time...

Hope this helps

Liz

Thanks, Spinning Top (Liz) for those interesting solutions. I like both of them and will have to look out for similar poles to a windbreak. I don't have wheels!!!! I could ask someone to take me to Quickfit - which is a good idea of yours. Perhaps I could find uselss Bentley tyres!!!! Something posh for them!!!! Maxine

I like the Bentley idea  Have a look in discount shops for a windbreak - even if you buy a new one it'll be cheaper than perches (ours was about 6 quid) - the poles are nice and smooth and the fabric might be useable as a shade on the run.
