Poor quality shells on eggs, calcium build up at the end

Recommended Posts

No, mixed corn won't help. The lumps are caused by hen's inability to process calcium correctly. You could try adding cod liver oil to the feed which is supposed to help absorption, but I've never found it to work and so I just live with the lumps, although it is bad news if you are hoping to breed from a particular bird as the eggs aren't really of good enough quality to incubate. I hope this isn't affecting all the eggs, that would be most unusual. I am assuming you are feeding a good quality layers pellet, and that the birds have access to sufficient mixed grit.
