Young driver insurance (again!)

Recommended Posts

Now that we have a shiny new car, I decided to compare insurers to see if I could avoid having to have another Co-op Young Driver smartbox fitted.

Cheapest "normal" insurance for me, OH and 2 boys (18 and 20) was RAC @ £1,541.

Then came across Aviva insurance - £950 for all of us with the option of a discount if you "testdrive" a smartphone app which records 200 miles of driving (only by the main driver), gives you a score and a potential 20% discount. I think they only need 5,000 drivers to test the app so I may be too late but it's still quite cheap at £950.

I might be ditching Co-op (renewal only a month away) 8) .

I gave up looking at review sites after many hours of looking - it appears that a lot of good reviews are left by people who have never had to make a claim.........and everyone who has made a claim was not happy with their insurer, whichever insurer it was.

Decided just to stick with the Co-op - much less hassle. The main reason I thought I might try and change insurers was to avoid having my lovely shiny new car ripped apart to put a smartbox in it :( .

I've been warned my premium may go up when it's up for renewal in October cos we have a new car now :? . Don't think it'll be too much though.
