I have never used Gumtree before as we have a very good local free online sales and wanted thingy for the Oxford area so I generally use that. However, I am searching for a tall, solid pine chest of drawers for YS bedroom and so decided to plunge into the world of Gumtree.

 

So far I have clicked on the reply button and responded to 4 ads (one three times over two weeks as it was ABSOLUTLEY what we were looking for.) I have not had a single reply despite having the message from Gumtreethat thead was sent and so I contacted Gumtree via the 'contact us' link as I wondered if it was just me being a thicket and not doing things properly (tho how I could not, I can't imagine but I do have my moments, esp with techie things!) You guessed it; no response from Gumtree themselves !

 

I do find it odd that none of the 4 contacts have replied - surely if you are selling something you want to reply and, even if sold, it seems only polite to fire off a quick 'sorry, its gone' message.

 

Has anyone else had this prob? Could it be that I havemissed something VERY obvious? Do I have to log in to buy (couldn't see anything that would indicate this tho!)? I am feeling very old and dim!

 

Oh, forgot to add that none of the advertisers had a phone no; it was just a case of clicking the reply button, writing a quick message and leaving my e-mail/phone number.

Just last week I contacted someone 'giving away' logs from a tree that was taken down. It was a relatively new add - so I thought I was in with a chance. Like you, I had an email from GT saying I had successfully sent a reply...but I've had no response whatsoever - not even a 'sorry, it's gone' one. Have you tried preloved? I've had a lot more success with them!
