We have just collected 5 fab rhode reds/light sussex cross 17wks old . We have put them in the eglu for the night to get over the shock of being caught clipped, and driven! Our other hens are totally unaware that they have next door neighbours so all will be revealed in the morning! The guy we bought them off said to just put them all together straight away and fight it out! Having discussed this issue on here before, I am taking the more cautious approach of look but don't touch! I feel better doing it this way so we will see what reaction we get in the morning! Bless them, we will try to tame them as much as the others who now come when called, let you pat them and pick them up! Any tips on newbies welcome.

I am so envious! I bet you can't wait until the morning. I can't provide any tips I am afraid as I have been asking the same advice myself but I am excited on your behalf!

Ahh, thanks, it's morning! I woke early, am off to the garden. Will let you know what I find!

We've had RIR girls in the past and they were the most fantastic layers...hope there's not too much noise this morning as they all set their beady eyes on each other

Well, down to the garden I went. Let out the newbies, bless their cotton socks! 3 came out quite confident, other 2 needed a bit of encouragement. They were lovely, quiet and calm, found the food eventually. So then in the other part of the run, out came our older hens! It took 30 seconds to notice, and the alarm calls began, they have been complaining ever since but I have to say that no feathers or beaks were raised. They eyed each other up through the fence, and the newbies walked around confidently oblivious. We let the older ones out to FR for a bit to let them settle even though they can see the others but not so close. They are still a bit vocal but thats all. Im guessing for now this is a good sign and I intent keeping the set up this way until all ignore each other!
