lillybettybabs Posted October 21, 2012 Share Posted October 21, 2012 I need some advice on Merlin, He has started to moult for the first time. i haven't worried too much up until today as he doesn't lay eggs but he's not eating much and looking a bit down in the dumps. Has a little in his crop at night but not a lot. Do i worry as much as i do with the girls or does he need less care and will come through it? Tweety Posted October 21, 2012 Share Posted October 21, 2012 None of my 3 cockerels has had a proper moult, but I would treat them exactly the same as the girls if they did. I was going to suggest Lifeguard - how long have you been using it? It may need a bit longer to have an effect if you have only started using it recently. Alternatively, Nettex have a product called Total Moulting Solutions, or you could try giving him some Nutridrops to stimulate his appetite and give him a bit of a lift. mimi5 Posted October 21, 2012 Share Posted October 21, 2012 My cockerel Monty has just about finished his first moult (he did look odd with no tail!). He has been a little quiet, but I encourage him with treats and he will eat out of my hand so I can make sure he gets a little extra because he's such a gent the girls get everything and he just stands back and watches!!!! For a little extra protein my guys are now on growers and a warm mash made from their pellets in the morning and I have some of the rooster booster which a sprinkle a dash of on the top. Also a few mealworms every other day, hand fed. But nutri-drops are an excellent pick me up when they are off their food. Hope he's more perky soon!!!!
