smartrus
We have a hen called Penny who is a real character! She has got up to all sorts. She has found a way to get out of the FR run by jumping up and swinging on the netting before jumping off the other side, it really funny to watch and I kind of let her get away with it! I think if she is clever enough to work it out then she can go have a wander. She makes a bee line for the kitchen and cat food. She has been in to the living room and sat on the back of the sofa whilst my husband was on the computer totally oblivious! Anyway, last night we lost her! She is always the last to bed, and comes when you call from somewhere or other in the garden, but last night there was no sign. Anyway, I decided to put away some tools whilst looking, and there she was, shut in the tool shed in a bag of feed! She even laid an egg in it! She is such a case! I have to say, even though hybrids are not always as elegant and good looking as pure breeds, I have found they are full of character and quite simple to look after, I would have them every time! Anyone else got any characters??
jackian
My three Clover , Poppy and Rosie are all so different . Clover is a lady she is a Pepperpot ,my OH says she reminds him of Margaret Rutherford and should have pearls around her neck. and she just looks on unaprovingly at anything that the other two starts, tutt tutting .....but joins in the end as if to say "If you can't beat them join them" The other two Poppy and Rosie are Gingernuts and according to my OH chavs Always into mischief , first into explore Poppy first and then little Rosie ..Rosie just follows anything that Poppy does.I once had a herb garden surrounded by chicken wire until Poppy found a way in...That was that .The herb garden is now out the front of the house with any other plants I need to save ..I would ratehr look at their antics than watch a herb grow Poppy and Rosie Poppy trying to read the sunday paper Clover looking a lady
zakjon-98
My appenzeller Dot is character. She is very clever and inquisitive and lays eggs all over the garden meaning an egg hunt is often needed She is very noisy and makes noises like a whistling kettle - often doing this and screeching at 5 am Once at a barbecue she flew up onto the table we were eating at and started eating the sweet corn I also found Judith my buff sussex standing with one foot in each of my dads shoes once when I had accidentally left the door open
Chortle Chook
Smartrus, your Penny is obviously a real character and inellegent too I'd have to disagree with you when you say hybrids are "not always as elegant and good looking as pure breeds". I think they look like 'proper' hens and your black girly is certainly very elegant indeed. I'd love to have them except that I was only allowed to have hens providing I had "no biggies, no diggers and no scratchers"
