Help - Afternoon tea baking without egg or dairy

Recommended Posts

A friend is coming around for afternoon tea on Saturday. her eldest (my Godson) is allergic to eggs, dairy, nuts and fish.

Now the fish allergy is not so bad although as my OH pointed out we won't be having smoke salmon sandwiches then

But baking

I'll thought I'd try a dairy substitute for butter in flapjacks and data bar recipes - I use stork in some Mary Berry recipes and that say's it's just veg oils so that should be ok.

Egg-free is more of a problem

Has anyone any suggested recipes ?

It's great is't it always someone who knows the answer. :D

It's brilliant :D

After googling vegan bakes I made:

scones, flapjacks, lemon cake, sultana spice cake and sausage rolls - yes my youngest was bemused by me making vegan pastry to make sausage rolls  with Waitrose iced finger buns, ham sandwiches made using dairy free spread and little sausages I was able to tell my godson he could eat anything on the table :D His face was a delight he was so pleased, he usually has to be so careful.

MY OH had said he thought I was going over the top be insisting everything on the table had to be egg/dairy/nut/fish free but he agreed after that it was the right thing to do.

I think that was a wonderful thing for you to do for him! I was at a party recently and there was a small table of the veggie stuff and the other two large tables were for meat eaters. Admittedly there are less veggies, but it must feel so limiting when you have a few things to choose from and the rest have lots to choose from.

He's so good, he just puts up with not being able to have a choice of food without complaint, once I knew what to look for :) I was quite happy baking away. Although I missed that eggy, buttery smell of cake baking. These recipes smelt quite different - not unpleasant but different.
