Hayleybug
we were out for most of the day today so the chooks were confined to the WIR, when i came back Peggy-Sue was holding one of her wings away from her body a bit, one of her flight feathers looks a bit bent too- does anyone know what might be wrong? i'm hoping she may have just bumped her wing slightly jumping about in the WIR or something but am concerned that it may be worse than just a bruise. she had a full crop at bedtime and was scratching about with the others as usual when they had half hour free range when we got home. here are some pics: and normal side- this shows how far away from her body her flight feathers are- has anyone seen this before? am quite worried this is my first visit to the chicken clinic, not had them for very long! thanks
mimi5
Dear Hayleybug, Well I'm no expert, but didn't want to read and run either!!! Have you tried picking her up and splaying her wing to see if the feathers will realign? Might be worth a go? The feather at an odd angle will probably fall out, when they're moulting they get feathers that do that, then fall out. I realise she'e too young to be moulting, so I think maybe she was startled by something and as you said had a flapping fit in the WIR and disarranged her wing feathers. How does Peggy-Sue look today? Of course if you're worried the vet is always there!!

Hi mimi thanks so much for your reply, oddly I think it may just have been related to the damaged feather as t was in the poo tray the next morning and was very bent, she must have plucked it out or it fell out. Either way she is now holding the wing correctly again! Phew! Almost a relief to discover I have worried for no reason
