StephenW
Hi guys, I treated my banties last night with Ivomec spot on as instructed by the lady at the vets but this morning I have noticed that 2 of them are doing something unusual, they are putting the bottom of their beaks on the ground and walking back a few feet? Can anyone help please? Steve
Egluntyne
Might be worth giving the vet a call to check that you were given the correct advice re dosage.
StephenW
Good idea, I could do that, please watch this video and you will understand what I mean Thanks Steve
Egghead68
Very odd. Did you put it on the skin on the back of their necks where they can't preen it away?
StephenW
Yeah put it on the back of their neck, is that not where you are supposed to put it? Thanks Steve
Egghead68
Yes - that is the right place. Are they back to normal now?
StephenW
Good as long as I put it in the right place, one was still doing it and was still out so I put her into bed, I rang the vets earlier to enquire about the doseage and the receptionist said she would ask the person that served me yesterday. sandyhas3chucks
I have half an idea that it was on another forum that several had neuroligical type problems after using it.. The ex bats forum, I know there are some peeps on here too maybe they can confirm or look for you,,
StephenW
Thanks very much, the vet that I was speaking to today said that neuroligical problemssuch as blindness and lack of co-ordination can occur if given to much. Do you know if the effect wore off on the chickens in the ex batt forum? Thanks Steve
sandyhas3chucks
I am no longer registered on that forum and unfortunately unlike this forum sadly for the chickens people are unable to find the very valuable information without signing up. I post of think they did but I have it so my mind that one died but that was almost immediately. However I can not trust my memory on this one! I will see if someone I know can look if someone doesn't turn up here to tel you
Chucky Mama
Over dosage can result in neurological symptoms and there may be little that you do other than support them - keep warm, quiet, fed and hydrated. I think only time will tell if they recover I am afraid Ivomec is not licensed for use in poultry and this is why many vets despite criticism will not prescribe it. Good luck with your birds. If they do recover it would be unwise to use it again.
