Came home from work and OH presented me with two beige eggs wondering if one was from Annette (who still hasn't started laying to our knowledge). Anyway, look like Dot and Buffy eggs, but then he mentioned Dot wasn't quite herself. Apparently her tail wasn't down, but was horizontal instead of up and she was a bit quiet and hanging around the house. Got her out for a nosey, but a bit hard as dark and when took her in the house she climbed up me. After which she was panting a bit! Her crop felt a little empty and squishy and her tummy felt a little bit more swollen beachball than I expected! Really hoping she is ok, she's my wee trooper. Worried its EYP again (lost Viv to this so perhaps just super paranoid). Any other ideas? :(

She has been laying for a little while, but I did wonder about a softie. There have been two in the poop trays over the course of the winter that I did wonder if they were hers...... Went and checked her this morning before I let them all out, she was standing up in the house at the front of the queue to get out. Gave her a grope, crop was empty and her tummy felt about the same - it's perhaps a little bit swollen but perhaps just a bit of a tummy..... Compared to Buffy and didn't feel too different, it's so hard to tell. Anyway, she was down the ladder in a shot when door opened and tucked straight into food and mash and her tail was only perhaps an angle lower than normal. She also looked subtly different - the only way I can think of to describe her was "sleeker" - not sure that helps! She did spend a lot of time around the bottom of the ladder debating going back in as Connie was laying... I had to go to work, but OH popped home at lunch time and she is in the nest box sat on two eggs.... I'm now wondering if she is having trouble laying or if she is going broody on me... Will try and get home in daylight to see.....

Came home to a flat chicken in a nest box with one toasty warm egg under her tummy. Lifted her out and put her in garden where she stayed in flat shape til I poked her a but. Then she walked off to dig the flower beds. First step or two were a bit wobbly but then she seemed ok. Was v cross at cube being shut and even tried to fly at nest box side. Have put a small trug in the hole to keep her out overnight. Poor baby. Think that's a fairly certain broody - do people with more experience agree? Don't want to miss an illness!!
