Chortle Chook
On the post about 'Help with Chicken Shopping' an interesting discussion is starting. Thought I'd make it a separate topic before I hijack the topic of chicken shopping. Wyandottes are nice, come in many colours and certain colours are much less prone to broodiness than others . . . My barreds hardly ever go broody and I have a lot if them, they get bored if they do go broody luckily!I don't think the silver laced are too bad either Partridge are of course renowned broodies followed by the solid colours Are other breeds such as Silkies more broody in some colours than in others? Redwing
I dont think there are as a rule no The interesting thing about Wyandottes is that most of the types (laced, barred, partridge etc) are slightly different shapes as they have different historical breeding. If you compare a white one and a partridge one they could be almost different breeds. Hence the difference in broodiness It would be interesting to know in the breeds where certain colours are ahead of the others for showing purposes if those colours are less broody than others because some lines are specifically bred for showing and the ability to be a good mother doesn't come in to it Many breeders use the crossbred 'goldtop' as a broody rather than their chosen breed and I guess there are lots of possible reasons for that
