auntielizzie
There have been quite a few recent posts about pecking - including my own "mild" pecking issue with poor Betsy. I brought the chicken first aid kit from Omlet. I have been using the purple spray and the anti peck, but I am a bit scared of the stockholm tar Has anyone else used it or is it only for severe cases? Betsy's back isn't too bad, but would it be worth putting the stockholm tar on it as I am not sure if the purple spray and anti peck is helping or not? Presumably the tar covers the area more thoroughly than anything else and forms some kind of barrier, but will it stop the new feathers coming through? Redwing
I've only been brave enough to use it a couple of times on bad wounds It eventually ears off but it does take ages, the new feathers will come through when the skin has healed and by that time the tar is patchy There isnt anything else to match it for sheer coverage and protection IMHO - my only reservation for using it is that if I handle the hen too much I get it on me! I use it at the 'past initial care and cleaning' stage
Daphne
I use it - but only the spray version Because of the spray I don't use it anywhere near eyes, but backs are a much easier target
sandyhas3chucks
i hate the stuff, perhaps it is not so bad in a big wooden shed, but I cant think that the fumey stink in The Eglu is very pleasant or good for them. as previously said takes ages to come of.. hate it. I found metatanium nappy rash cream worked by colouring butt yellow and calming any red/inflamation.
